The beauty—and effectiveness—of our process is in its simplicity and thoroughness: The use of pure, clean water; the environmentally friendly soaps we source; and the simplicity of our quick, efficient drying process. We’ve developed our process over the past 100 years, concerned exclusively with quality and cleanliness through environmentally-sound, home-friendly practices. Here’s a typical rug’s journey through the K.A. Menendian cleaning process. For specialty rugs, the process is even more involved, containing unique methods known only to us.
- Each rug is inspected & evaluated according to its cleaning needs.
- Special requests by the customer are noted.
- Embedded dry allergens, dirt, and sand are removed from the rug with our specialized dust filtration system.
- Pre-spotting of areas noted during inspection is completed.
- Each rug is hand cleaned using traditional methods and soft rotary brushes.
- Our state-of-the-art wash system ensures a pure, gentle washing using soft water and mild soap.
- Water rinse assures the cleansing soap is removed.
- The fringe is gently cleaned by hand to bring back its natural beauty.
- 95% of the water is removed immediately following the cleaning
- Your rug is then groomed to assure a consistent direction of the pile and appearance.
- The rug is then dried in our custom heat and humidity controlled dry room assuring your rug is safely and thoroughly dried.
- Each rug is thoroughly examined to assure our exacting standards are met.
- Your clean, fresh rug is wrapped and ready to be returned to your home or office.

- Routine vacuuming with a high quality vacuum cleaner is the most important thing you can do to maintain the beauty of your rug. Never vacuum the fringes of your rug, especially a hand-knotted rug.
- Rotate your rug 180 degrees every 6 months to promote even wear.
- For liquid spills, use a clean, undyed cloth and press firmly around the spill to absorb as much as possible. Do not rub! This will cause the stain to set deeper into the rug, making it harder to remove and increasing the likelihood that it will reappear.
- For hard to remove stains, professional rug cleaning is recommended.
- We recommend having your rug cleaned every 1 to 3 years, based upon the amount of foot traffic.
- The recommended life for a good quality pad is 8-10 years. Our pads help prolong the life of your rug, while protecting your flooring.
- If you notice the edging of your rug coming undone, please contact us. A few months of wear can turn a minor repair into a major repair.
- Our Restoration service is best for antique, very finely woven, silk highlighted or fragile rugs.
- Holes and damage can be rewoven with nearly undetectable results, or simply sewn to prevent further loss.
- Worn areas can be restored with the closest match of color, fiber, and spin.
- Careful assessment of condition and value of the rug are essential.

& Enzyme Bath
Mustiness or minor odor problems caused by pets may be helped by our deodorizing treatment at the time of cleaning. But standard cleaning will not always remove pet odors. When a rug has been saturated with pet urine, we recommend a total submersion cleaning process combined with our guaranteed odor eliminator enzyme treatment.
We recommend that all rugs have stain protection applied at each cleaning. It is very helpful in preventing permanent staining, and will help to make regular vacuuming more effective by removing more soil.
Our treatment is not a pesticide. The larvae reject the taste of the wool when this treatment is applied.
The padding we sell is made from recycled fibers and will add life to your rug while protecting your floors. By absorbing impact they increase carpet life and prevent your rug from sliding on the floor. As Oriental rugs are often not perfectly straight we custom cut it to fit your rug.

Our Certified Rug Appraiser (CRA) is an expert in the value of Oriental Rugs. CRA appraisals are widely accepted by the banking and insurance industries across the US and Canada. Certification is governed by Oriental Rug Retailers of America (ORRA), an exclusive group of nationwide rug dealers who must maintain a strict code of business ethics.
